Many of you saw our recent Facebook event about the Beauty Revived campaign. After going through a few applications that were sent in of who they thought was beautiful, we got a chance to read Grayson's story. Here's what her mom said:
"In November 2009 my daughter, Grayson, was diagnosed with Pre-B Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia High Risk due to age. She was 10 at the time and in the 5th grade at River Mill Academy. We never expected this diagnosis and knew it wouldn't be easy. Grayson would have to endure 2 1/2 years of chemo treatments that included many hospital stays, spinal taps, bone marrow aspirations and chemo that caused her to lose her hair, lots of weight and at times her ability to walk. Her body couldn't handle some of the chemo and she had to deal with recurring pancreatitis. After talking all over the country to other oncologists, her doctors at UNC were able to complete her treatment with high doses of chemo while inpatient. On March 20, 2012 Grayson completed her treatment after 2 1/2 years. We continue to go back for blood work and thankfully she continues to be in remission. She is now 15 and a sophomore. There are some side effects of the chemo to her body that we know about and some that may not show up for years. We know that there is a chance of it coming back or of a secondary cancer. Thankfully we choose to believe that she will continue to be in remission. We live one day at a time as a family. Grayson has a older sister who is a sophomore in college. She was diagnosed a type 1 diabetic 4 months after Grayson's diagnosis. Life hasn't been fair to them but we are thankful and blessed they are here. "
Okay, if you're anything like me, you are teary eyed! Grayson is truly a beautiful fighter. We were so thankful to capture these photos of her!
